Thornley House is situated one mile from Allendale village and nine miles south of the historic market town of Hexham in Northumberland. It is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Hadrian's Wall is only a 15 minutes drive away.

The house is surrounded by a large garden, which  opens for the Red Cross every year and is part of the National Garden Scheme. It includes the surrounding field and wood where there is a pussy cat cemetery.

There are three resident Maine Coons (the largest cats you can have legally in Britain), a red Burmese, a ginger female and a 'commercial traveller' (Alexei, who comes and goes as he pleases), along with the occasional visiting feline! Dogs are welcome on a lead in the house and grounds (to avoid international incidents  with the cats !) Other animals are also welcome on request (regular visitors include birds of prey and guinea pigs).
